Sydney Poetry Lounge is thrilled to re-commence proceedings with a stellar August line-up of Mark Tredinnick and Peter Ramm. And, of course, our famous open mic.

Join us in Sydney for a great night at The Friend in Hand Hotel, Glebe. Mark and I will be reading from out new collections, A Beginner's Guide (Birdfish, 2022) and Waterlines (Vagabond, 2022). We'll be sharing some our latest work and will be part of the audience for some readings on the open mic.

Dr MARK TREDINNICK BA (Hons), LLB (Hons), MBA, PhD—is a celebrated poet, essayist, and teacher. His many works of poetry and prose include A Gathered Distance, Almost Everything I Know, Egret in a Ploughed Field, Bluewren Cantos, Fire Diary, The Blue Plateau, and The Little Red Writing Book. For twenty-five years, he’s taught poetry and expressive writing at the University of Sydney, where he was poet in residence in 2018. His many honours include two of the world’s foremost poetry prizes, the Montreal and the Cardiff. “His is a bold, big-thinking poetry,” Sir Andrew Motion has written, “in which ancient themes (especially the theme of our human relationship with landscape) are recast and rekindled.” “One of our great poets of place,” Judy Beveridge has called him.


In 2020, Tredinnick was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for services to literature and education. Mark is the father of five, and he lives with his partner Jodie Williams in Gundungurra country, along the Wingecarribee, southwest of Sydney. Peter Ramm is a poet and teacher who writes on the Gundungarra lands of the NSW Southern Highlands. His debut poetry collection Waterlines will be out with Vagabond Press in 2022. His poetry has appeared in Cordite, Westerly, The Rialto, Plumwood Mountain, Eureka Street and the Red Room Company.


In 2022 Peter won the prestigious Manchester Poetry Prize and many of his poems have been shortlisted in Australian and International poetry competitions, including the Bridport, Blake, ACU, Fish, and Newcastle Poetry Prizes. Peter has also won the Harri Jones Memorial Prize, the South Coast Writers Centre Poetry Award, and the Red Room Company's Poetry Object twice. He has placed or been 'Highly Commended' in the Rialto Nature and Place Poetry Competition, the Tom Collins Poetry Prize, the KSP National Poetry Prize, and the Henry Lawson Memorial and Literary Society Poetry Competition.


In 2021 Peter was the recipient of residencies with WestWords at the Daffodil Cottage and with the South Coast Writers Centre at the Wollongong Botanic Gardens.
